Institute of Applied Economics Studies

The Institute (including the lifetime of its predecessors) turned 65 in 2021. It cherishes the tradition of the Debrecen Agronomy School founded by Iván Gönczi †, Béla Kádár †, László Vadász †, József Tóth †, János Borsos †, Ernő Pfau †, Zsolt Nemessályi, Imre Ertsey, and it operates as an integral part of this School. Our colleagues take part as lecturers in the education work at almost all bachelor and master programmes of the Faculty but also in the Károly Ihrig Doctoral School. Non-exhaustive list of our education portfolio includes Business economics, Farm business management, Food economics, Business, project and innovation management, Business, strategic and operational planning, Strategic management, Economic management, Media and sports economics, Business development policy and Land administration. Since 2010, our lecturers have been using the methodology of the Finnish „Team Academy” learning method in Business development. The vast majority of the subjects have a part of independent or team project work (f.e. business, strategic and annual business plan, application documents for grants, sectoral studies etc.) that have to be presented orally. The research profile of the Institute is characterized by sectoral and product line focus. Currently, we have research projects of agribusiness and organization issues, sectoral economics, but research subprograms include the analysis of role and success factors of family businesses, research of economic issues in land ownership and use, economic assessment of energetic use and recovery of biomass.  Key sectors and product lines we focus on at national and European levels are pig and cereals sectors, cattle sector and dairy product line, fishing industry, poultry product line and fruit and vegetables product line. The colleagues prepare sectoral assessments, strategic plans, economic and market analyses and forecasts for Product Boards and Associations, professional bodies, financial institutions and for the Ministry of Agriculture on a regular basis.
